OUR PHILOSOPHY

Rosethorn Before and After Care Program provides children with a stimulating, safe, healthy play environment for growth and development. Our center recognizes each child’s individuality, diversity and developmental levels.

Our goal is to provide a program that is quality; supportive, family-centred, reliable, safe and responsive. Our goals for children, consistent with the Ministry of Education pedagogy, include the following:

  • Every child has a sense of belonging when he or she is connected to others and contributes to their world.

  • Every child is developing a sense of self, health, and well-being.

  • Every child is an active and engaged learner who explores the world with body, mind, and senses.

  • Every child is a capable communicator who expresses himself or herself in many ways.

Learning Through Play and Inquiry

Our teachers facilitate and guide play in the belief that learning is holistic, responsive and be developmentally appropriate. Children have the right to engage in open-ended exploration, play, and discovery, in an environment that stimulates learning curiosity and interactions with others.

At Rosethorn Before and After Care Program, we appreciate that children are active learners, drawing on their experiences to construct their own understanding of the world. We believe that children are competent and capable co-learners and learn best when they are partnered in an environment where their ideas are valued and heard, their physical need are met in a flexible cooperative setting that stimulates communication, encourages investigation and promotes exploration.

Our Centre provides a program that is play based and designed to support the care and development of young children.  A warm and nurturing environment forms the basis for all interactions that occur.  “Care” refers to the ability of the staff and the program offered to be responsive to:

  • emotional needs for comfort, support, understanding, and affection

  • physical needs for health and safety

  • culture and/or religious needs.

Opportunities are provided for the children during the course of each day, which enhance, support, and encourage this development.  As active, capable and competent learners, children gather information through their senses and through interactions with peers and adults in order to grow in their understanding of themselves and their physical and social world.

We promote anti-biased behaviour in all aspects of our program. Boys and girls are encouraged to participate in all activities equally and in a non-violent manner. We focus on constructive problem-solving, both in interactions between children and between children and adults.

Our program encourages respect, regardless of gender, race, creed, color, religion, class, age, sexual orientation, marital status, physical disabilities, ethnic origin, ancestry or citizenship.
